PERSONALITY:
Declan was the first child of Niall Lynch, and the biggest disappointment. The moment Niall realized that Declan didn't have any of the Dreamer abilities he had hoped for he turned his focus on Ronan and instead began to teach Declan the business side of his dealings instead. This caused Declan to become determined to be the best at literally everything else in hopes of gaining come of his father's attention.

When it came to his grades, he excelled.
When it came to sports, he excelled.
When it came to his reputation, he excelled.
When it came to fighting, he excelled.
When it came to his public standing, he excelled.

And he tried his hardest to impress his father, to hone in on some of the love he shared so much with Ronan.

Declan should have felt resentment towards Ronan but he didn't. Dreaming was not something he wanted to have the skill of. All dreaming did was tear things apart, ruin lives, and lie. It was all a lie. Something that he would inevitably later become himself thanks again to Niall.

Declan grew up being taught skills normal teens shouldn't have been taught. Niall taught both Ronan and Declan how to box, how to take care of themselves. That was something Declan was thankful for considering how much he would need that skill later on. He was taught business and the more shady side of Dreaming that Ronan was no aware of. There was a whole world he was being shoved into, and all without having any of the magical skills to navigate it easily. Declan had to use his head and not the imaginative part.

What Niall didn't prepare Declan for was life after his death.

When Niall died, Declan, at the age of seventeen was dropped the biggest bombshell of his life. Not only had his father died, but his 'mother' was in a coma (dream related), and he was suddenly responsible for both of his younger brothers (both of which were in their teens). That would have been enough to drive him mad but he also gained his fathers debts on top of that, his business (shady as it was) and the knowledge that he needed to protect his kid brother Ronan from people that would want to get their hands on him if they knew what he could do: Dream them the world.

Because of his past, Declan closed himself off to affection of any kind feeling unworthy of it, and drowned himself in his journey to make a name for himself, as well having as much sex as he could. Sex was easy for Declan, because it was satisfying, it gave him control and feelings weren't exactly necessary. Declan Lynch was terrible with feelings.

Control was something Declan loved and loathed at the same time. He needed it but he hated it because he didn't have a choice in it either. He was the responsible one. He was the one who carried the weight.

And he was the one with the reputation of being a man-whore with a thirst for political gain. Declan didn't want to be connected to the Dream world, but he didn't have a choice. He had a choice when it came to politics. He could charm a room full of strangers. He could make anyone in power welcome him in with open arms. And it gave him an in with powerful people, connections his father had made.

But he longed for his family. He missed his brother. Everything hurt, though.

Declan comes off as stuffy, pig headed, and much older than he actually is. Cocky and arrogant with smooth words and wandering eyes. Declan is very much a flirt, and usually, he gets what he wants.

Health junkie (his body is a temple; he eats healthy, works out, trains himself...but he does enjoy his whiskey.)

Underneath it all the sense of responsibility, the control, the arrogance, is someone who wants a family. He wants affection. Love. He wants someone to be proud of him and enjoy his company for reasons other than connections or duty.

Most of all, he wants his brother to stop fighting him and be his brother again. He's aware of how much damage he had done in the past and he's working to make it better. If he didn't care, he would never have driven four hours every week to see him for an hour at a time.

Insecure.
Angry.
Bitter.
Control freak.
Reserved.
Wired.
Angst heavy.
Promiscuous.
Alcohol driven.
Lonely.
Insomniac.

When he was younger, and he realized what Ronan could do, Declan made a point of staying awake and watching over him while he slept incase something happened. Due to this care, he developed a sort of insomnia that when combined with a caffeine addiction and stress only worsened with age.

Despite all of Declans hang-ups and issues, he is loyal to those he cares about. He worries and he deals with things inwardly so others know nothing of his own torment. He is always mentally working things out, planning, and taking care of anything behind the scenes that he can.

If he trusts you, you will be well taken care of. Love, however, is something that he is working on. Thus far there are only three people he can say he loves without question: Matthew, Ronan and Gansey (even if Gansey isn't aware of it). And he's trying to get better.

POWERS/ABILITIES: N/A. Unlike Ronan, Declan is void of any and all Dreamer abilities.
