Declan was tired of managing secrets.
B O D Y; physical looks, traits, style of dress.
Athletic build beneath a fine lined suit. Declan and Ronan were both taught to box by their father, Niall, and because of that Declan has always taken a little more pride in his appearance than he probably should. He eats healthy, he exercises and he’s very active (both physically as well as sexually).
His style varies depending on the situation. For business— he’s all business. Fine suits, tailored to fit him properly so he can take care of business while looking the part. He’s clean shaven, and put together. However, when he’s at home or not doing anything particularly showy, he tends to let his facial hair grow a bit, doesn’t do his hair as neatly and he wears t-shirts and joggers since that usually means he’s being lazy, working from home or he’s living in the gym. Socially, it’s a mixture of both extremes. More put together, just with a higher comfort level.
Like his younger brother, Ronan, he has the same light blue eyes and dark wavy Irishman hair. He just doesn’t seem to have the same sparkle as Ronan does. A fact he has grown up living through and accepting despite the issues it’s caused him mentally.
M I N D; psyche, personality, general mentality.
At first glance, conversation and/or meeting one would pick one of two sides. Either they immediately think Declan is an arrogant, tight ass who thinks he knows everything and is a control freak. On the other hand, if caught off guard he’s softer, warmer, vulnerable and just plain exhausted.
Declan has never been anything important, or at least he has never thought so. His father favored Ronan and Declan was just another son. Nothing special. He was ordinary and no matter what he did or how well he tried at something, even if he was perfect at it, Niall never acknowledged him the same way he did Ronan. Despite that, Declan has always, even in secret, loved his brother. He has always taken care of him even when they were butting heads and hating each other, because deep down—Ronan is his brother, he is his family. He and Matthew.
Declan takes on too much and he probably always will.
Which is not to say he is a complete man-whore moving from woman to woman (or other), or that he isn’t a complete asshole. He baits Ronan most of the time and he gets into more than a handful of fights a year. Most of which are with Ronan. The Arguments are endless, as well.
But he has walls. He has issues. He has insecurities. He has an anger problem. Its just something that all of the Lynches (save for Matthew) have to live with.
S K I L L S; talents, powers, magics.
Declan is good with business, and all things ‘Adult’, and he is a good fighter. He just really needs to work on his personal skills. [EDIT: If you're playing with him from the AU setting, Declan does have the Dreaming gene, however, after realizing the damage it could cause and the obsession of it he hid his talent from their father Niall and tried to keep it a secret from everyone in his life. Sort of keeping it as a backup plan incase shit hits the fan later on.]
H I S T O R Y; times that made them, that broke them.
(See the WIKI page for a full history.) [EDIT: Again, if you're playing with him from the AU standpoint, most of the canon is accurate with just the subtle change of his talents. At the end of the series when everything is hunkydory, Declan comes clean with Ronan about exactly why he was the way he was, his history with their father, what he was having to do behind the scenes, etc. The brothers are mending their damaged relationship and Declan is coming to terms with the fact that he IS a Lynch and he can't fight what is in his blood. He's taking a break from politics and getting his hands dirty again. Literally and metaphorically.]
